This page lists various rules that the committee has formulated to help ensure the efficient and harmonious running of the club.
Appeals against a decision by the director
- Appeals against a decision by the Director during an event must be made within half an hour of the end of the event or before the player leaves the club, whichever is later.
- The Director must then immediately inform the Senior Director, or in case the Senior Director was directing the event or is unavailable or involved in the appeal, one of the other officers of the club (Chairman, Vice-chairman, Secretary or Treasurer) – the supervising officer.
- The supervising officer must then attempt to form an appeals committee of three qualified EBU Club Directors and may not include the Director or anyone who was at the table when the disputed ruling was given.
- The appeals committee should meet as soon as practicable to rule on the appeal.
- If the players are unhappy with the decision of the club's appeals committee, they may appeal to the secretary of the EBU Laws & Ethics committee. The EBU committee will require a deposit that may be retained if the appeal is considered to be frivolous.
It is envisaged that it should be possible to complete the entire process of forming an appeals committee and obtaining a ruling on the appeal within half-an-hour of the appeal being made. It should always be possible to complete the process before the next club event.
Appeals against the score
- Appeals against the score of a club event should be made to the scorer of the event and must be made within 24 hours of the score being published on the club website.
- The appeal must state the board, the pairs playing North-South and East-West, the published score which is disputed and the score that the appellant believes is correct.
- On receiving the appeal, the scorer must check the travellers for the board (if they are being used), and if the result has been transcribed from the traveller incorrectly, correct and republish the score as soon as is practicable.
- If the score has been transcribed from the traveller correctly, or if Bridgemates are being used, then the appellant must contact a member of the opposing pair. If they agree with the appellant’s version of the score, they must contact the scorer, by telephone or email, and confirm that the score was incorrectly entered, and what the correct score is. On receiving this confirmation, the scorer should correct and republish the score as soon as is practicable.
- If the scorer is, for any reason, unavailable, an appeal must be notified to any officer of the club. The officer must notify the scorer of the appeal as soon as practicable, who should handle the appeal as described above.
Calendar
- The committee shall designate six evenings a year when teams events shall be held. The dates of these events shall be announced and approved by the club at the Annual General Meeting.
- The calendar shall be displayed on the club web site, clearly linked from the home page.
- The committee should endeavour to include on the calendar presented to the AGM the dates of any other special events (e.g. Simultaneous Pairs, OBA County Pairs, National Pairs) to be held in the year following the AGM. (Nothwithstanding this regulation, the committee may, at its discretion, accept any invitations to take part in events that are received after the AGM even if that event takes place during the period covered by the calendar.)
- Players should ensure that they are part of a team when they attend the club on designated teams evenings since odd pairs cannot be accommodated.
Permitted Agreements
Agreements up to level 3 may be played at all club events.
