Treasurer’s statement

Ken Eaton reported that the club had £2100 in hand at present. He had investigated the moving of this cash into the Nationwide Building Society which should provide about £35 per year. It was agreed that this should be done.

The possibility of buying a Bridgemate scoring system was considered. For £1500 we could get a server plus 5 outlets but we would need extra outlets. Currently the club could not justify such expenditure.

Arthur and Virginia Jones were thanked for updating the address list of members on a regular basis; they were asked to indicate on the list which players had paid their annual membership fees.

It was agreed to donate £250 to the Wantage Nursing Home appeal.

Matters arising from the previous committee meeting held on 13.6.06

  1. The EBU directives on alerting seems to be working fairly well – discuss again at our next meeting.
  2. It had not been possible to fit in team practice sessions prior to the start of our Wessex League programme.
  3. Curtain cards for the duplimate boards are now supplied on a regular basis.
  4. Keith Sadler will organise the Christmas party to be held on Thursday December 14th. (change partners each round?).
  5. Avis Roberts is still trying to organise sessions for juniors in conjunction with Alison Nicolson (discuss at next meeting in January).

A one-off event to introduce ‘social’ bridge players to duplicate bridge was discussed again. We should try to hold this on the evening of Wednesday April 18th 2007. Keith Robbins and Alan Parker would liase with Alison Nicolson to publicise this once the date is finalised.

Entry to the Comrades Club

Some problems had arisen with entry to the club. Entry requires a key fob (supplied to members only) and only a few of our bridge club members also belong to the Comrades Club. It was agreed that we would pay for two of our committee (Keith Robbins and Lyn Morton) to join the Comrades Club. (A.P. to arrange this).
